Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad has only eight human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
