Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term mentor Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular reactions on court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He defended 4 early chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
