Liverpool's Star Issues Regret to Teammates, Says Curtis Jones
The Liverpool midfielder has revealed that the Egyptian forward said sorry to the group of players following the uproar from his recent interview.
What Happened
Salah was left out from a European match after criticising the club and claiming his connection to the head coach had soured.
“He speaks for himself and he can say his own stuff,” Jones told Sky Sports. “He apologised to us and was like: ‘If my words hurt anyone, I apologise.’”
The head coach has chosen not to reveal on whether he got an explanation from the veteran striker.
Moving Forward
The player stated that the team's response remained positive. “He was his usual self, he had a big smile on his face and we all treated him normally,” Jones added.
The midfielder also suggested that a teammate fighting for a place is a positive trait. “It's clear there are different methods you can handle situations,” he said. “But if a lad’s fine to just be on the bench, then I think that’s more of an issue.”
On-Field Response
Their results have remained strong in the period after the interview fallout. He feels the Salah's words were not intended to destabilise the squad.
“If passion has boiled over, it’s always been from a good place,” Jones concluded. “That chapter is closed and we’re gelling well as a team, getting results and on a positive run.”
