The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular program wrapping up—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Fan Response

It would be easy to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates regarding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It feels like an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by online forums.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Does the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
