This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
