Around fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations show the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack rendered him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
